My hometown and childhood classmates: then in NYT Magazine’s “Being 13” issue, now in NYT Magazine’s “Then and Now” feature. The photographer wanted to depict ”popularity codified,” so obviously the result was a passive-aggressive suburban nightmare. Mostly everyone blamed the terrible New York journalist interloper for everything.

Seeing it now, all I can think is, “thank god 4chan and internet commenting didn’t exist back then.”
